OUR MISSION, OUR SUCCESS

The Black Student Union (BSU) is a student organization that focuses on

cultivating awareness and appreciation for the African-American culture. We

recognize that while independent success is great, group success is exemplary.

Therefore our mission to ourselves and to our community is to:

-Increase student success and retention by fostering a network of support

throughout HSU and in the Black community.

-Broaden our knowledge and experience the rich African-American

culture by hosting culturally based events as well as encourage ourselves to

try new experiences.

-Maximize the our general welfare by advocating the needs of those in

Omega Psi Phi

Serenity Sisters

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is the first international fraternal organization to be founded on the campus of a historically black college.

Omega Psi Phi was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The founders were three Howard University undergraduates, -- Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman. Joining them was their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just.

From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning, "friendship is essential to the soul," the nameOmega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto.

Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles.

The MultiCultural Center (MCC), a student-initiated program, promotes understanding of diversity, celebrates our differences and welcomes multi-ethnic perspectives. Our homey and resource-abundant house is a welcoming place where people are invited to gather to EXPLORE identity and history,EXPERIENCE culture and traditions, EXPRESS feelings and ideas andEMPOWER each other to work for social justice. The MCC is a safe place to express opinions and to challenge the status quo, it provides a place to cross boundaries and eliminate popular stereotypes.

Brothers United (BU) is a community based, cultural club here at HSU. We are made up of strong Black men working to become leaders in our community. BU was formed in the intent to unite mainly brothers of color but welcome anyone willing to join. We are a club dedicated to community service, unity, brotherhood, and aim to enrich ourselves as one, culturally, socially, politically and intellectually. Brothers United, BU, Unity
